2013 Journalism – Fellowship

The Marguerite Casey Foundation Journalism Fellowship on Poverty aims to increase the public’s understanding of poverty. Recipients of the 2013 Journalism Fellowship will write at least one in- depth story or short series that illustrates how language, culture and race influence public attitudes and policy about poor people.

Individuals selected to receive fellowships from the Foundation will be required to sign an award letter indicating their agreement to comply with the Foundation’s standard grant-making terms and conditions as a condition of receiving the fellowship.

If an Applicant currently is employed by a newspaper or other news media company, the award letter will require the Applicant to certify that he/she will work on the story or series to be funded by the award on the Applicant’s own time (i.e., not during work hours) or will take an unpaid leave of absence from his/her job while working on the story or series funded by the award.

Two fellows will receive a stipend of $4,000. Additionally, Marguerite Casey Foundation will reimburse fellows for all travel up to $1,000.

Applications will be accepted through May 24, 2013.

Scholarship recipients will write at least one in-depth story or a short series that illustrates how language, culture and race influence public attitudes and policy about poor people. Individuals selected to receive scholarships from the Foundation will be required to sign an award letter indicating their agreement to comply with the Foundation’s standard grant-making terms and conditions as a condition of receiving the scholarship.Two recipients will each receive a stipend of $1,000. Additionally, Marguerite Casey Foundation will reimburse students for all travel up to $800.
