No. While Marguerite Casey Foundation and Casey Family Programs have similar missions and collaborate together often, they are separate, independent organizations.

What type of work does the Foundation fund? What types of support does it provide?

The Foundation’s grantmaking is focused on three areas: education, advocacy and activism. The Foundation’s support is primarily distributed to cornerstone organizations for core operating support, although some support is project-specific or capacity building focused.

Is there any work the Foundation does not fund?

Yes. The Foundation does not fund individuals, capital campaigns, endowments or fundraising drives, litigation, religious activity or film/video production.

How does the Foundation make grants?

Typically, the Foundation’s program staff will identify, research, evaluate and review proposals from potential grantees, and make recommendations to the Foundation’s President and CEO. Once reviewed, these recommendations are presented to the Foundation’s Board of Directors for approval. The Foundation does not accept or respond to any unsolicited proposals, inquiries or letters of intent.

Grants range in size between $100,000 and $650,000. Grants made to organizations located within the state of Washington range from $25,000 to $50,000 annually.

Who was Marguerite Casey?

Marguerite Casey was born in Seattle, Washington on September 5, 1900, the only daughter, and last of four children, to Henry J. and Annie E. Casey. Like her brother Jim, the founder of United Parcel Service, Marguerite Casey believed deeply in the importance of family, and spent much of her adult life working to create opportunities for families and communities to succeed and thrive. Before joining the Foundation, Ms. Vega-Marquis served as executive director of the Community Technology Foundation of California (CTFC), a community foundation based in San Francisco.
