Across the US, people are confronting skyrocketing housing costs, deadly cuts to healthcare and essential services, increased violence and surveillance by state agents, and unlivable wages, all while billionaires amass unprecedented wealth and increasing influence over our government. In response, millions of Americans are organizing, uniting in solidarity, and building collective power to resist autocracy and deliver on the unfulfilled promise of a vibrant multiracial democracy. We’re in the fight of our lives, and it’s never been more important to unite, to learn, to grow, and to build together. That’s why MCF is launching Common Thread—a place to gather in person to weave ideas, movements, and communities together through conversation, culture, and connection..

Common Thread

Where Connection Thrives and Ideas Come Alive

MCF’s Common Thread is the heartbeat of a community in motion—the living rhythm that emerges when people, ideas, and creativity come together. In partnership with community organizations nationwide, Common Thread events will convene authors, scholars, journalists, community members, musicians, and artists to explore the joy and power in organizing and collective learning. We’ll explore how oligarchic power shapes US politics, how public budgets become sites of collective struggle and possibility, how a growing tenants movement is fighting housing insecurity, and how solidarity in action is forging a pathway to a future worth living in.

Program

Each event creates space to gather for live music, drinks, and a candid conversation with a featured guest speaker. These events will be moderated by MCF president and CEO Dr. Carmen Rojas. Discussions will be followed by an after-party where folks can grab a drink, move to music from a local DJ, and connect with community. We hope you’ll join us at an upcoming Common Thread event!
